California Microwave Relay
Association
1. Listen to the
repeater to become familiar with any peculiarities in its operation.
2. To begin a contact,
simply say that you are on frequency. For example, use, "N6RHZ" or
"N6RHZ monitoring" or "N6RHZ listening." Do not use
"CQ."
3. Identify legally;
you must identify with your call sign at the end of each contact and every 10
minutes during QSO. It is illegal to key without identifying.
4. Pause (allow one
second) between transmission. This allows other associates to use the repeater
(someone may have an emergency).
5. Keep transmission
short and thoughtful. Your monologue may prevent someone announcing an
emergency.
6. Do not break into a
QSO unless you have something to add. Interrupting is not polite. However, if
you need to break in, to use the autopatch, drop a link, etc., let the users
know why you're breaking in.
7. Autopatch users are
not to conduct any business communication on the system.
8. CMRA assembles and
maintains all repeaters at considerable expense and time. If you are a regular
user of the system, try to support it in any way you can.
9. When you drop the
link, bring link up after you have completed your QSO.
10. The system has several remote bases. CMRA Controllers and Directors control these remote bases. In
case of an emergency, ask for a controller or director. Advise them of the
emergency and what remote you need brought up.
11. QSO no more than 15 minutes (1 on 1). There is no problem with
a round table with extended breaks between resets.
12. Do not talk about codes on the repeater system or discuss
amount of associate donations.
13. If a user is doing something wrong on the system, tell a CMRA
Director or Control Operator. They will call the associate via telephone. CMRA
HQ's phone is (714) 537-4230.
14. No CB language is acceptable.
15. You must join ARES.
16. Any ARES, RACES member can use the system.
17. New associates will be provisional associates for sixty days
unless sponsored by a current member.
18. When using Autopatch, please identify with your call sign
before activating and after completing your phone call.
19. After keying PTT switch, pause for at least one second
("1001") before speaking to allow the repeaters to link up.
20. Use the English language on the CMRA system. Control operators
and directors listen to the system and are unable to understand anything
else.
